From October 15th to 18th, planners and engineers from the City and State participated in the 2024 Mobile Workshop in Southern California, organized by the Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization. This workshop served as the culmination of the 2024 Project Management Training Program, supported by federal funding.
While in Southern California, tour participants had the opportunity to learn from local transportation experts and officials in Los Angeles and San Diego, both celebrated for their innovative approaches to multimodal transportation infrastructure and the use of federal funding.
Our journey took us through a diverse range of projects focused on transit, pedestrian pathways, bikeways, and safety improvements. We returned to Hawaii invigorated and dedicated to enhancing these critical elements within our own community.
Notable projects we explored included Santa Monica Ocean Avenue, Venice Boulevard Mobility Improvements, SDSU Mission Valley Development, Gaslamp Pedestrian Promenade, and the La Jolla Road Diet, among many others.
These experiences will inspire our efforts to implement similar innovations in Hawaii!
