The Week Without Driving challenge was launched in 2021 by Anna Zivarts at Disability Rights Washington so that those who have the option to drive can learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that nondrivers face. After two successful years, Week Without Driving became a national challenge in 2023 in partnership with the non-profit America Walks. More than 142 organizations across 41 states and the District of Columbia joined the challenge in 2023. 2024 marks the first year of participation in Hawaii!
