OahuMPO Staff Celebrate Bike to Work Week with HBL

May 23, 2024 | MPO News

The OahuMPO was delighted to celebrate National Bike to Work Week with the Hawaii Bicycling League (HBL)!

In the lead-up to Bike to Work Week, OahuMPO staff Samantha Lara and Maile Greenhill volunteered for the Bike Lane Menehune Project on Saturday, May 11, 2024, hosted by HBL. During this event, HBL volunteers replaced broken delineators on the Ward Avenue bike lane. This initiative is part of the Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance’s Malama O Ka Aina program, supported by the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS).

On Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15, OahuMPO staff Samantha Lara, Maile Greenhill, and Lily Zheng joined HBL, The Bike Shop, DTS, and Kauai Coffee in setting up energizer stations at Thomas Square Park and the Honolulu Hale + Civic Center Bike Path. OahuMPO staff members collected feedback from cyclists about their biking experiences, including what they love and what could be improved. The insights gathered will be incorporated into our upcoming 2050 Oahu Regional Transportation Plan. Additionally, OahuMPO staff distributed participation prizes.

Mahalo to HBL for organizing these events and allowing OahuMPO to celebrate Bike Month! For more information on upcoming biking events for National Bike Month, follow HBL on Instagram @hblridealoha or visit their website at www.hbl.org.
